JettorVALORANT has 9 ranks. The first eight are split into three tiers each and Radiant stands alone, which gives 25 rank steps from Iron 1 to Radiant. Here is the full ladder from lowest to highest, how you move between steps, and where the rules change once you reach Immortal.
Riot's own list is the same nine names in this order, and it notes that every rank except Radiant has three tiers (VALORANT Competitive Mode FAQ).
Below Immortal, every tier works the same way. Your progress inside a tier is shown as Rank Rating (RR), and according to Riot's RR article for Iron through Ascendant:
How much RR you win or lose per match is not fixed. It depends on the match result and on how your hidden matchmaking rating (MMR) compares with your visible rank. If you keep gaining small amounts and losing big ones, your MMR is probably below your rank. We explain that relationship in Hidden MMR vs. visible rank and VALORANT Rank Rating explained.
From Immortal 1 upward, RR no longer resets at 100. You keep adding RR as long as you win, and the Immortal tiers and Radiant are unlocked by regional RR thresholds. Immortal 1 starts at 10 RR. Radiant also requires a spot in the top 500 players of your region.
The thresholds below are taken from Riot's Immortal and Radiant RR article (posted March 30, 2026). Riot can change them, so check the article if you are close to a cut-off.
At the start of Act 2 or Act 3, Immortal and Radiant players keep their leaderboard position but their RR is reduced by 90%, which moves Radiant players back to Immortal until they climb again (same Riot article).
The badge you see in your career tab is your Act Rank. Riot defines it by your highest ranked win during the act, which it calls your proven skill (Competitive Mode FAQ). Your current rank can be lower than your Act Rank if you drop after that win. The same FAQ also confirms there is no rank decay for inactivity.
Party limits are set by rank, not by tier, up to Platinum. From Platinum up, you can queue with players at most one rank above you at the same tier (for example Platinum 2 with up to Diamond 2), and Immortal 1+ players can only play solo, duo or in a five-stack. We cover every rule, including the five-stack RR penalties, in What ranks can play together in VALORANT?
Your visible rank is only half the picture. The free MMR calculator looks at your recent ranked matches and RR changes and shows whether your hidden MMR sits above or below the rank you currently hold, so you know whether the next promotion is close or still a few wins away.
Iron 1 is the lowest rank step.
Radiant. It has no tiers and is limited to the top 500 players per region who also pass that region's RR threshold.
There are 9 ranks and 25 rank steps: eight ranks with three tiers each, plus Radiant.
Ascendant is between Diamond and Immortal.
