What Ranks Can Play Together in Valorant? Party Rules for 2026

In VALORANT competitive, who you can queue with depends on the lowest and highest rank in your party and on the party size. Duos and trios have to stay inside a rank range, four-player parties are not allowed, and five-stacks can ignore the range but pay an RR penalty. Every rule below comes from Riot's VALORANT Competitive Mode FAQ.

Duo and trio rank restrictions

For parties of 2 or 3 players, Riot's table compares the lowest-ranked and the highest-ranked player in the party:

  • Lowest rank Iron or Bronze: the highest player can be up to Silver.
  • Lowest rank Silver: the highest player can be up to Gold.
  • Lowest rank Gold: the highest player can be up to Platinum.
  • Lowest rank Platinum, Diamond, Ascendant, Immortal or Radiant: the highest player can be at most one rank higher at the same tier. Riot's example: Platinum 2 can queue with up to Diamond 2.

Up to Gold the limit is a whole rank, so a Silver 1 can queue with a Gold 3. From Platinum up the tier matters as well, so a Diamond 1 can go up to Ascendant 1, but not Ascendant 2.

Immortal and Radiant: solo, duo or five-stack only

Riot's FAQ states that players in Immortal 1 and above can only solo, duo or five-stack. A trio that includes an Immortal player cannot enter the competitive queue, even if everyone is within one rank.

Four-player parties are not allowed

Competitive queue does not accept parties of four. You need to queue as a trio and get one random player, or find a fifth and play as a five-stack.

Five-stacks: no rank limit, but less RR

A party of five can ignore the rank table entirely. In exchange, Riot reduces the RR the team wins or loses based on who is in the stack:

  • Everyone Ascendant 3 or below: 25% RR reduction.
  • One or more players Immortal 1 to Immortal 3: 25% RR reduction.
  • One or more players Radiant: 75% RR reduction.
  • A Radiant player in a stack with players below Radiant: that player's potential RR drops by 90%.

Five-stacks are fine for playing with friends of very different ranks, but they are the slowest way to climb.

Quick examples

  • Iron 2 + Silver 3: allowed (Iron/Bronze can go up to Silver).
  • Bronze 3 + Gold 1: not allowed as a duo or trio. Play as a five-stack instead.
  • Gold 2 + Platinum 3: allowed (Gold can go up to Platinum).
  • Platinum 3 + Diamond 3: allowed (one rank higher, same tier).
  • Diamond 2 + Ascendant 3: not allowed (more than one rank and tier apart).
  • Ascendant 3 + Immortal 1: allowed as a duo, not as a trio.

Does queuing with a higher rank change your MMR?

The restrictions exist to keep matches fair, but how much RR you gain is still decided by your own hidden MMR and match results. If you are curious how party size affects your climb, read Solo queue vs. team play. For the full rank ladder and RR rules, see VALORANT ranks in order.

FAQ

Can Iron and Gold play together in VALORANT?

Not as a duo or trio. Iron and Bronze can queue with players up to Silver. Iron and Gold can only play together in a five-stack.

Can Diamond and Immortal play together?

Not as a duo or trio. Ascendant sits between them, so Diamond and Immortal are two ranks apart, which is more than the one-rank limit. They can only play together in a five-stack.

Can four players queue competitive?

No. Competitive allows solo, duo, trio and five-stack parties only.
